Running Bamboo Vs Clumping Bamboo

All of our bamboo varieties are clumping bamboo. The difference between running bamboo and clumping bamboo is the way in which they grow and spread. Clumping bamboo develops new culms from the base of the plant which allows it to be noninvasive. Running bamboo sends shoots underground which may very well spring up multiple feet away from the original plant in an unwanted location. Running bamboo may be invasive.

Bamboo Size

The overall height that your bamboo will grow depends on the variety that you choose. Some species grow to a maximum of 10-15 feet while others can reach well over 50 feet in height.

USDA Hardiness Zone

The USDA Hardiness Zones is a system used to determine which plants will grow in different areas of the country. There are bamboo species suitable for any area of the USA just be sure that you choose a variety that is suitable for your area.

Bamboo Appearance

Bamboo varieties have different colors, heights, thicknesses, patterns and leaf density. You have the ability to choose a bamboo variety that you find attractive. You can also have fun by selecting several bamboo varieties and starting your very own bamboo garden.
